David Hopkinson recalls the night he was shot in the neck in 2013.
The incident, he says, happened after he and his partner went to retrieve his vehicle and his vehicle’s tag.
“We pulled up and a white guy, I think he was around 25 or 26, got out of his car, pulled a pistol out of a bag, pointed it at us and said, ‘Get out of the way, we’re going to shoot you,'” he says.
“So we got out and I remember seeing this black man in the middle of the street, in front of the intersection, with a rifle, with two people around him.”
The man in front turned around and shot Hopkinson once in the back of the neck, Hopkinson says.
The bullet tore through the neck and exited the back.
“I was trying to pull my shirt back up and when I heard a loud pop and saw blood coming out of my neck,” he says in the audio recording.
“Then I realized it was my partner.”
The two men then fled the scene, and Hopkinson and his colleagues followed them.
Police say the pair were then seen in a dark alley.
They were later arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
They pleaded guilty to an assault charge in April, and the charges were eventually reduced to a summary offence.
After a lengthy court case, they were ordered to perform 120 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $2,000 fine.
A month later, the city’s court was told that the charges against the pair had been dropped, with no criminal charges laid.
It wasn’t until the judge announced in July that the case had been withdrawn, after the pair pleaded guilty and paid the fine.
Now, as a police officer, Hopkinsonson is returning to the area where he was killed to continue his work.
“He wanted to do the job he was trained to do,” he told CBC Toronto in an interview.
“And he’s still doing that.”
The Toronto Police Service said it is not investigating the shooting.
However, the force has not released a statement about the case or the case file.
It has not been clear whether officers in other Toronto neighbourhoods are being investigated for similar incidents.
A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Services Board says the board will be looking into the shooting and will also look into what the community should be doing to prevent such shootings.

(Toronto Police Service via AP)”This is something that we are looking into.
We will be consulting with our community and doing what we can to help reduce the numbers of these incidents in the future,” the spokesperson said.
“That includes making sure that people understand the police are there to help, to help resolve disputes, to support people.”
The shooting is one of the few recent cases that has prompted the release of video and audio recordings of a person being killed in Toronto, but the city is still reeling from what the shooting did to the lives of its officers.
The police service released a series of videos of the incident last month.
“As the community continues to come forward and share information, we are going to be working with the community and we’re also going to make sure that we’re doing everything we can in our jurisdiction to ensure that there’s accountability,” says police spokeswoman Christine Coulson.
“But we also need to be aware that in this particular case, this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

James Hopkinson is one example of how officers have had to grapple with how to respond in a post-9/11 world.
In the video, Hopkins was standing near a street corner when two men appeared to approach and the pair began to engage in a brief physical altercation.
A man appears to brandish a handgun and a man appears on the ground.
As the man tries to handcuff one of them, a second man appears.
The two suspects flee on foot, while a third man remains on the scene.
The man who appeared on the video has not yet been identified.

(Chris Young/Canadian Press) “We’re still trying to understand why it happened, but it does seem like it was a random act of violence,” Coulson said.
The city also released a letter to families of those killed, saying the city would be working to make it easier for people to share their stories with police and “provide information on what they need to do to help police officers and the community better understand how we react to the tragic events that occur every day.”
Police said that the number of shootings has decreased since last year, but they have not released data on how many officers have been shot in that time.
“Every year, our officers get shot.
Every year, we take action, but we need to make a commitment to ensure this doesn’t
